A JDM car tour puts you in the passenger seat of one of them for an evening. You ride out along the Shuto expressways to the Daikoku Parking Area, a rest stop on the Bayshore Route in Yokohama where owners gather after dark.
The car meet is the point of the evening. Nobody sells a ticket to it, and nobody runs it: it is a public car park, and on a good night its rows fill with tuned cars and the people who built them. You walk among them for about an hour, take your photos, then ride back into the city.
What changes from one tour to the next is how you get there and what you sit in. Shared drives cost $79.56 to $146.26 a person, and the private GT-R is $1,007.56 for a party of up to two.
The meet is a rest stop on an expressway, so you need a car to reach it. Each drive takes you there and back, and several list fuel and expressway tolls in the fare.
You ride in a Japanese sports car or a van, depending on the drive and the option you book. On the hotel-pickup drive the car belongs to an enthusiast who talks you through the scene on the way. On the drives from Shibuya and Harajuku, the operator assigns the car from its fleet.
A 7:00pm start falls before sunset only from 24 June to 4 July. The 8:00pm, 8:30pm and 11:30pm starts are after dark all year, so you reach the meet with the lights on.
Most drives stop for photos at Tokyo Tower, and several pass through Shibuya or over the bay. It is a car evening first, but you also get the city from the expressways.

If you want the least fuss, take the hotel pickup. If you want a fixed start time, meet at a kerb in Shibuya or Harajuku, where the lowest fares are too. The GT-R costs the most by far, and it doubles your time among the cars.
